Lionel Messi Motivated By Seeing Real Madrid In UCL Final

May 16, 2018 4:45 PM

Lionel Messi conceded that no club can win matches when they play poorly the way Real Madrid can. Madrid is in their third straight Champions League final. Barcelona last was in the Champions League Final in 2015.

"Position by position, Madrid have the best players in the world," Messi told TyC Sports. "[Barca] do as well, but Madrid have something that only they have. When they play badly, they still get results. We have to be the far superior side to win.

"The Champions League [loss was a mistake]. Given the [4-1] advantage we had before the second leg, we [should have reached] the semifinal. It was a huge disappointment.

"[But] it motivates me to see Madrid in the Champions League final again; to see them winning leagues. I want to win the Champions League every year. I want to be a league champion every year -- it's what we all want."

Arsene Wenger Excepts European Super League To Play On Weekends

May 10, 2018 2:01 PM

Arsene Wenger believes a European super league will take over weekend matches in the future, which will force domestic leagues to often play midweek.

“The next evolution? Maybe I will see you in a few years and you will certainly have a European league over the weekends,” Wenger said. “A domestic league will certainly play Tuesday/Wednesday. I think that is the next step we will see.”

The Champions League and Europa League exclusively play on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays except for the Champions League Final, which is played on a Saturday.
